Recently, a distant friend reached out, said “Maigen I see you posting things online and I think we should get together, see what we can create.” It was Lanre Omotunwashe, co-owner of one of the sweetest thrift stores in Houston. He invited me to his warehouse to see Stacks on Racks in all its glory. As my jaw dropped, Lanre politely chuckled. Apparently he’s received this expression often as people wander through the thrifts of a time past. The clothes were endless and everything Kendall put on, she looked amazing in. These guys are even crazy creative enough to put together a little shop inside the warehouse, available for peruse by appointment only right now. [How cool!?!?!] See the sneak peek below.
I immediately had to phone a friend, Kendall Hanna, and partner in crime for Instagram MeetUps. We kicked off our first one last Wednesday and found ourselves in the middle of a 30+ turnout on super short notice. At the meetup, there were so many crazy cute girls all buzzing about their thrift store shopping purchases. Once inside the warehouse at Stacks on Racks, Kendall and I just knew were going to have the next Instagram MeetUp here. A Thrift Brunch we are planning at this store, complete with mimosas and perhaps a thrift themed pub crawl to boot. What’s more, I am planning a trek to this mysterious store so let me know if you want to come along. I am capping my first trip to the store at 15 people. Be warned. You will get your picture taken, and you will be found on Instagram shortly thereafter. I scored my own favorite article of clothing, that made me want to go back to the Jump Rope for Heart or D.A.R.E days.
I can’t even explain the connection I had with this place. I was suddenly back in the 80’s and 90’s and couldn’t have been happier about it. I just can’t wait for this Thrunch [compliments to a super sonic friend for giving me this sweet word mesh]. Be sure to hop on our Instagrams to keep up with the next MeetUp here at Stacks on Racks. @maigensawyer @kendallhanna, @shop_sor
