Less than one day before Hurricane Harvey, I hopped in my SUV and marched up to the Houston Heights for an in-home family newborn photoshoot. Meet Katherine, one of the most animated and relaxed newborns I’ve ever had the opportunity to meet. And to think, it was less than 36 hours before the single-most chaotic hurricane rocked the Texas coast and flooded Houston streets and homes. Another remarkable memory about that day is that Katherine’s mom was just as relaxed. Made me think a lot about how our actions and dispositions can truly affect those around us, even in the middle of high energy environments like Harvey certainly provided. Katherine’s dad made sure to offer me a beer, like any incredible Texas family would! It was a token of good fortune for the hurricane and it worked!

Katherine let her mom and dad wrap her up like a taco and just hung out, passing the most adorable glances my direction. Her curious eyes and gorgeous complexion are going to spell t-r-o-u-b-l-e for mom and dad soon enough! It was an absolute honor to photograph this family and this life-changing event for them.
