Branding with Handlettering :: First Attempt

I struggle with something that most creatives do. I will start one project, then bounce to another before finishing the first. Right now, I’m eight deep in half-baked aspirations [and deadlines]. Try sitting down in front of a box fan, inhale a deep breath and then say “Ahhhhhhh” the same as you would if you were at the doctor being checked for a sore throat. That noise… is all I can hear in my brain when I get this busy. Busy isn’t even the right word; When I get this sporadic, yeah that’s more like it, ok and maybe busy. For people who know anything …

Colored Smoke Flares :: Galveston Beach

A late one again tonight. My brain is full… full of ideas, plans, goals, half baked ideas, other people’s ideas, deadlines, getting better, getting stronger, hurting, healing, thinking, wandering, looking back, thinking forward, looking around. It gets hard sometimes trying to bring an idea to fruition, and the more creative I allow myself to become across different mediums, the harder it gets to pull ideas together into something that, well even makes sense. It’s been a full year to encompass the spectrum of highs and lows; of pushing my own personal understanding of myself; yeah that mostly.  I’m still realizing some debilitating losses while at …

Newborn to the Kiser Family :: Jentry

I love this family. When I first started working with Kelsie and Mike, it was just the two of them. I’ve been lucky enough to stay with them through pivotal moments as their family has grown now to four. Riley has become a big sister, and I have gotten to see these two turn from newlyweds to the perfect parent duo. Mike’s always so comforting and Kelsie always so calm. Congratulations and Merry Christmas to you guys. You’re such an inspiration.

Discovery Green Downtown Houston // Jess and Lance

Meet Jessica and Lance. You probably can’t tell from Jess’s bubbly personality just how cold it was while we moved around Downtown Houston and Discovery Green, so I’ll tell you – 35 Degrees. I enjoyed it so much though and will do just about anything to be around people with this kind of energy. When we learned how cold it was going to be here in Houston on the day of their shoot, I think we both got surprisingly excited, rather than discouraged as you might expect. Jess, you are a beautiful lady and so much fun to be around. Congrats to you and Lance! …

Riomaggiore Italy Sunset Wallpaper // Cinque Terre

I know it’s been some time since I posted a Wallpaper. So I was perusing some old photos that never made it out of the archives and stumbled upon this little gem. This shot was taken right before the sunset turned all purple, pink, and orange on me. I loved how simple and endless this sunset photo is from my magical experience in Riomaggiore, Italy. Riomaggiore is one of 5 villages that make up Cinque Terre in Italy, right on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea. Heaven. Kind of like those french fries from Sammy’s. Ok I’m kidding, I guess. Enjoy!

Sammy’s Wild Game Grill :: Houston Restaurants

I live within walking distance of Heaven in Houston. Meet Sammy’s Wild Game Grill on Washington Avenue in Houston. I must say that it is one of the best restaurants here. If you are in town visiting, you should try this place out. If you live here and don’t venture beyond Buffalo Wild Wings, you should try this place out. Actually, maybe I shouldn’t advocate these guys so much because then it will become stiflingly overrun and I’ll dread the long lines. I digress. It’s good shit. You should go. And seriously, right there “in my own backyard”, who would have thought you could try …

How To Learn Handlettering

This is how to learn handlettering: Set the pencil down on a blank sheet of paper and start. If your beginning plethoric attempts are anything like mine, you’ll have this beautiful script word in your mind that comes out as block bubble letters like you used to draw on your notes in middle school. Talk about muscle memory. Then I scaled Dribbble and Instagram for the best of the best. After weeks of pining over how it seems so natural to these people, I started paying attention to the details; how “the pros” weighted their letters, drew curves, filled in shades, and connected letters into …
